As competition in publishing intensifies in the broad management disciplines, the importance of clearly articulating research becomes more salient. Additionally, the rigour with which research is conducted has likewise matured. The outworking of this is that the benchmark for what is required to be published has lifted. Within this discussion, I provide guidance on how to effectively conduct research from the viewpoint of an editor. The main themes in the discussion revolve around (i) how to structure a research question into an academic paper; (ii) what editors and reviewers are broadly looking for; and (iii) how to deal with the revision process. I will also touch on how to be an effective reviewer.
Dr. Andrew Jackson is associate professor at the Business School of the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.
